| Salicylic acid for chemical peel |
I decided to go for a mild chemical peel for my ice pick scarring, for my skin type (oily) Salicylic acid is the peel for me. Unlike the other peels available Salicylic chemical peels are very mild and do not have any down time, this was perfect for me! Salicylic acid is supposed to make the skin peel and flake mildly but by using a moisturiser this will quickly go away. I went for 20% Salicylic which is also equivalent to a 40% Glycolic acid peel, it is supposed to resurface skin and make acne scarring less shallow after a few applications.
So you do one peel a week for 6 weeks then rest for two-three weeks then resume. After the first peel or two you may break out, which I did but that's normal. It also helps control oily skin and declog pores, I have done four peels now and can notice a difference, yes my ice pick scars appear smaller and less shallow as they once were so I can say that they are working but... the peel isn't as mild as I expected it to be.
So on top of having oily skin I also have sensitive skin and Salicylic acid is supposed to be perfect for my skin type, but I noticed that my skin resembles a burn victim! Where I apply the Salicylic acid my skin turns very darn brown and starts to peel off after a few days, on day 3 I looked like a victim of domestic violence. My skin was so dark that foundation was useless because it peeked right through, also it just kept peeling, it takes at least a week for me to look human enough to go out of the house, so for me the downtime is a real bummer. After I complete one peel and my skin is back to normal I am ready for the next so it doesn't end.
I have decided that because the down time is too long and scary I will just spot treat the areas and scars that I want treating, this way not my whole face will be a mess and I can still conceal it if I want to go out.
It cost £7.50 excluding delivery for my 30ml bottle of Salicylic acid and 65ml of Neutralising and Soothing Gel. Forever Young also trade on eBay but my peel is £1 more expensive than the website, overall I was happy with the product but they were slow to post and also it came in a ziplock bag that was a size too small so everything sticks out the top.

I used 20% glycolic peel done nothing for me.
It’s nice that the chemical peel worked right for you. Did you continue using it after this session? I know it’s not advisable to use too much of this, as it has chemical that will be absorbed deep into the layers of your skin. But I do know too that it’s fine to resume using them moderately, once the skin has taken enough break from all the chemical products. I hope we get to see how this peel did wonders to your skin!

Any updates on your skincare routine? Are you still using this peel? Looks like your skin yielded wonderful benefits from this product. But it was wise to tell others to seek professional advice first before trying on this new treatment, or any treatment for that matter.
