So the next day we aimed to leave early(ish) to see if we could be seen, Big Willie's open from 10am during the weekday, so we got there around midday and asked how busy they were, luckily we were able to come back at 4.30pm that evening to have our tattoo's done, yay! So we took our time and each chose a tattoo.
There are many standard designs that you can look up in the books that are provided but if you know what you want send an email or print it out and bring it there, they will then draw it and there you go, your own custom tattoo. We spent a while choosing out tattoo's and talked to some of the people who work there, there's Sarah, Tony, a young guy on reception (didn't catch his name) and of course Bill aka Big Willie. They were all so friendly and varying in age we had a blast.
So I chose 3 flying butterflies that would be different colours and my sister went for a large tribal design on her back. Mine cost £60 and my sister £70. We each paid a £20 deposit and returned a few hours later to be inked.
Upon arrival or designs had been sketched and ready to transfer to where we wanted our tattoo's done, we approved the size and place and we were ready to go. There are two rooms, a large one that is used by two people and another one for Sarah that is a little smaller. My sister had the bigger room and sat on a chair leaning forward so Tony could tattoo her back, next to her was another customer getting work done on his leg or arm (can't remember where) by Bill. I was alone with Sarah but could see into the other room.
For my smallish inkling it took around 45 minutes my sisters was slightly less although hers was bigger, I guess mine required intricate work and my sisters was a large design that just needed filling in. Anyway I didn't feel pain and neither did my sister, we were told how to care for them when we get home, it was all pretty standard.
It took a week for mine to heal but I noticed that after a few days there was a part that looked like it didn't take properly, now it has been nearly a month it doesn't really look that nice. The butterfly towards the bottom should be pink and purple but you can barely make it out, the ink also looks very faded. I am very disappointed with the results but even more so because I don't live nowhere near so can't go back for a touch up. You can go back within 3 months for touch ups, free of charge, which is a plus as it is easy to miss some bits but for me I have to pay another tattooist to make it look like it should.
My sisters one looks much better than mine, it doesn't look like she needs to go back for any touch ups. As a whole I had a nice experience but gutted that I don't live near to get the problem sorted, overall though I do recommend Big Willies Tattoo Shack in Enfield, just a note though that they accept only cash, no cards yet.
Pictures coming soon...
