Human hair extensions from Hindu Temple

Everyone wants healthy hair whether its long or short, lifeless thin and limp hair is not a good look. Women spend hours blow drying and volumising hair so that it falls nicely and looks nice and fresh. For centuries women who have short hair or limp hair have had help in the form of hair extensions but do they really know where they come from?

Hair from India
There is a custom in India where both men and women shave off all their hair as an offering to the Gods. Unfortunately instead of being 'offered' the hair is then sold on to make hair extensions very rarely do the women receive any money from doing so. Some devotees do this on a yearly basis purely for their religion, what they don't know is that the temples benefit hugely from their selfless sacrifices as temple hair extensions can be bought for as much as £3,000.

Before

After

People who live in the small villages in India do not have money to buy western shampoo so they are free from chemicals, hair dye and damaging straighteners etc, Indian hair is known for being very strong and of high quality due to the lack of modern products.

Celebrities who are known to use Indian hair extensions are: Eva Longoria, Beyonce, Mischa Barton, Britney Spears, Jordan and Frankie Sandford. As the trend for thick and volumised hair continues there will always be a high demand for human hair extensions and as the source of the hair is known it is also classed as ethical.

Although the women have offered their hair as opposed to being forced to shave it off sell it for money is better I still feel very sad for them as they don't realise how lucrative hair selling can be. They can get as much as £300 a pound of hair if they were to sell it for a profit and most these women are from small villages that are in poverty.

Did you know that is some countries they shave off hair from corpses and then sell them off for a profit, now that's just sick. Imagine wearing a dead persons hair, that would freak me out!

There are natural ways to get thick and healthy hair that require little money or attention.
