DIY Fishtail Braid

Since my hair is longer I have been looking for easy hair braids to do myself, when I came across the fishtail braid I thought it was so beautiful and classy. As a mother of a toddler I need easy hairstyles as I don't have the time to spend ages in front of the mirror messing around. Now the fishtail braid in my opinion doesn't require a mirror once you get the hang of it.
When my friend came over the other day we were discussing hair plaits when I asked if she could the fishtail braid, I have been trying for so long and I keep failing at it, yet its supposed to be so easy. Well she did my hair for me and made it look so easy, it was done in five minutes. It gave me encouragement that I could learn it too.

Well I decided to give it a try the other day whilst watching TV and lo and behold I cracked it! Well on closer inspection it was a little wonky at the top but towards the end it was perfect! I was so happy, if I did it in front of a mirror it would have turned out so much better but nonetheless I have finally managed to do it.

How to do the fishtail braid?
As you know it is classed as a super easy braid to do as it only requires two strands and not the traditional three but what I couldn't get my head around was how to hold them.
  • Split the hair you want to braid into two
  • Then take sections from the back of one braid and add it to the other side in the middle section
  • Do the same from the other side and go back and forth adding hair to the middle section
There are different looks you can get from this, if you want a messy look then don't smooth out the hair, if you want a clean look then take larger chunks and if you want a defined and classy look then take very small  chunks of hair. For me the smaller the chunks the nicer the braid but that's my personal opinion.
