Dark toes

I was reading something the other day when I came across something I never thought of before. There was a question on why people get dark toes or the skin on their toes turn dark. I know a few people that have this problem and on a whole the only people that don't get this problem are... yes you guessed celebrities!
I sometimes get this too but it usually disappears without me having to do much but then there are people who have very bad discolouration where it doesn't look very nice when you wear open toed shoes.

What makes skin on toes to get darker?
There are a few things that cause this, usually its the friction of the shoes that causes the top of the toes to get darker and its worse when you don't wear socks with closed shoes.

How to whiten toes?
If they really get you down you can try a few things at home yourself to try and get back the original colour or lighten them.

  • Try a mild whitening cream or bleaching cream, using it on your toes should be fine as opposed to your face
  • Use a lemon cut it in half and rub is on the skin, this also helps lighten it
  • Buy or make your own foot scrub and use everyday in the shower
  • Lightly use a footfile or hard skin remover on the top of the toes to lighten them
To prevent yourself from getting them use a shoe liner when wearing closed shoes and avoid putting bare feet into shoes.
